9/27/25- 5th Street Structure Fire
On Saturday, September 27th, UCFD1 responded to an early morning structure fire in the 1700 block of NE 5th Street in Hermiston.

Crews arrived to find a one-story single-family home with fire through the roof. The first arriving engine quickly secured a hydrant and initiated an offensive fire attack on the outside of the home. Once the fire was knocked down, crews stretched hoses into the structure to continue an aggressive interior attack throughout the house to extinguish any remaining fire.
The majority of the fire was contained to the attic area; however, the home sustained extensive damage from the fire as well as suppression efforts. Crews were able to rescue a cat that was still inside the structure, and an investigation into the cause is ongoing.
UCFD1 would like to thank our partnering agencies, as Automatic Aid was provided by Umatilla Rural Fire Protection District, and assistance from Hermiston Police Department for traffic/crowd control.
Remember: In the event of a structure fire, get out of the building as quickly & safely as possible. Once outside, stay out, call 9-1-1 & wait for first responders to arrive.
