On April 21st, 2025, District 1  welcomed 12 Firefighters/EMTS & Paramedics to the Academy, our largest academy class in UCFD#1 history.

After multiple rounds of interviews and physical & psychological exams, these 12 probationary firefighters & paramedics will undergo 13 weeks of intensive fire and EMS training, taught by Battalion Chief of Training Wes Blood. Upon successful completion of the academy, they begin shift work to serve the Umatilla County community.

The focus of training for week one included UCFD#1's mission and values, radio communications, uniform fittings, station, equipment, and apparatus checks, & ended with a driving cone course!

The recruits are in high spirits and excited to progress along their academy training.
