Umatilla County Fire District #1 is hiring for the position of Deputy Fire Marshal. This position will work under the general guidance and direction of the Division Chief/Fire Marshal.

HIRING TIMELINE:

• CLOSES: October 20, 2023 @ 5:00 p.m.
• ASSESSMENT CENTER: November 13, 2023 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• CHIEF’S INTERVIEW: TBD
• PROJECTED START DATE: December 1, 2023

HIRING PROCESS:

• Successful candidates moving on to the assessment center will be notified by mail and email if provided by October 24, 2023. Information regarding assessment center will be provided in notification packet.
• Successful candidates must sign a waiver for background checks.

COMPENSATION:

• $63,564 – $99,300 annually depending on education, experience and qualifications plus an excellent benefit package.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid State driver’s license or ability to obtain within three (3) months of appointment.
2. Basic First Aid/CPR or ability to obtain within 1 year of appointment.
3. Oregon Fire Inspector 1 (Oregon Administrative Rule 837-039-0016) or ability to obtain within 1 year.
4. NFPA Instructor 1
5. NFPA Firefighter 1
6. Pass Background check including, but not limited to driving record, criminal record, psychological evaluation, and reference check.
7. Pass District physical agility testing.
8. Pass District probationary period.
9. Oregon Defensible Space Assessment or ability to obtain within 6 months.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. NFPA Fire Officer 2 certification
2. AS Degree in Fire Science or Fire Protection Technology or relevant degree
3. Bachelor’s degree in Fire Service Administration, Fire Science, or related field
4. NFA Executive Fire Officer Certification 
5. Juvenile Fire setter Interventionist 1
6. Fire Marshal with Plans Examiner Endorsement 
7. NFPA Fire Investigator or equivalent
8. State Certified Hazardous Materials On-scene Incident Commander or ability to obtain within 1 year of appointment.
9. Meet the State of Oregon Competency Recognition requirements for Fire Marshal with ICC Fire Plans Examiner Endorsement within three years of hire (Oregon Administrative Rule 837-039-0016).
10. Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC) from Oregon Building Codes Division (Oregon Administrative Rule 918-098-1000).
11. Fluent in Spanish (verbally and in writing).
12. Oregon EMT Certification.
