Outdoor Debris Burning Now Open

As of October 1st, the outdoor burning season is now open!

A firefighter in yellow gear sprays water on a scorched field.

If your planned burning falls within the ordinance, please check with Umatilla County Smoke Management to confirm whether it’s a designated burn day:

Visit the Smoke Management website: https://www.co.umatilla.or.us/.../ag-residential-burning

Call the Burn Line: 541-278-6397

Because we have not yet received significant rainfall this season to reduce fire danger, it’s especially important to monitor weather conditions and consider the location of your burn before starting.

Once a burn is ignited, responsibility rests with the individual conducting it. Please remember:

Always attend to your burn until it is completely out. Simply applying water does not mean it’s fully extinguished. Treat it like a campfire.

Notify UCFD#1 at 541-567-8822 before starting any large burns to avoid fire crews being unnecessarily dispatched. Large burn piles should also be called in for inspection prior to burning at 541-667-5134 or 541-667-5120.

Have water, tools, and equipment readily available to maintain full control of the fire.

Burn only during daylight hours (10:00 a.m. – Sunset).

Only burn materials approved under UCFD#1’s Burn Ordinance.

.Be aware: under Oregon Revised Statutes 478.965 and 476.380(3)(b), landowners or occupants may be liable for fire suppression costs if a fire escapes their control.
