UCFD#1 Visits Hermiston School District Summer Program

On July 14-15th, UCFD#1 crews began their Monday and Tuesday mornings joining  The Hermiston Police Department for a “First Responder's Day” for kids enrolled in the Hermiston School District's Summer Program.

UCFD#1 crews brought along the fire truck and ambulance to Loma Vista Elementary School and Rocky Heights Elementary School for the morning, allowing students to walk through emergency medical apparatus and connect one-on-one with our firefighters and medics.

"Having UCFD#1 and the Hermiston Police Department visit our schools and give 368 elementary students a hands-on look at life as first responders was an incredible learning opportunity! Students explored fire trucks and police vehicles, tried on gear, and learned directly from the heroes who serve our community. It was a meaningful experience to have multiple types of first responders connecting with students and sharing their important work”, said Ashlynn Burnett, HSD Elementary Summer Program Coordinator.

Public education events like these not only give UCFD#1 a chance to connect with our community, but they also provide valuable safety and prevention tips to children and their family members. Duty personnel talk to students about who to call and where to go in the event of an emergency and how to prevent accidents from occurring.

UCFD#1 is grateful for every opportunity to engage with our community during non-emergent events. Thank you to the Hermiston Police Department for inviting our crews and to the Hermiston School District for hosting us!
